So What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of material placed over the front of your tooth giving you that fresh new look. This safely transforms your smile to meet any cosmetic needs you may have. Porcelain veneers have been favorably received by people and have become a common procedure for patients of Dr. Gary L. White.

Not only do veneers give you a beautiful smile, but veneers also take care of multiple flaws at the same time. Porcelain veneers help cover and protect the entire visible surface of your teeth. This takes care of all stains, chips, cracks, misalignment, and imperfections that might be showing.

The porcelain we use to create your veneers is very strong. It is made to withstand all normal biting and chewing for years to come. If you take all precautionary measures to avoid chewing your nails or crunching ice regularly, your porcelain veneers will last even longer.

As with all cosmetic procedures, Dr. Gary L. White will take the time to sit down with you and listen to your goals and desires. He will then help you determine if porcelain veneers are the right treatment for you. He will then discuss all possible outcomes and what you can expect.

At Dentist Chattanooga we aim for long-term satisfaction with all our patients. That is why we take the time to sit down and listen and help our patients understand all available treatments and options to best accomplish their needs.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Applied To Your Teeth?

Having porcelain veneers applied to your teeth requires three visits, including the free consultation. At the first visit, we will make an impression of your existing teeth so the dental laboratory and Dr. White can design what you want your new teeth to look like. Next, you will be able to view your new teeth in wax. If you decide to move forward with the veneer procedure, Dr. White will need to remove a tiny layer of surface tissue from your tooth (about a millimeter of enamel).

Last, Dr. White will then make a custom mold of your teeth and have the mold sent to a lab to make your porcelain veneers. This process takes about 3-4 weeks to complete. This custom mold will ensure that your veneers will be created perfectly to fit with your personal bite.

During the 3 to 4 weeks’ time, Dr. White will provide you with temporary veneers while you wait for your custom veneers to be created.

  1. Once your permanent veneers have been created, Dr. White will place them on your teeth as a test to be sure they fit correctly. Dr. White will also make sure that you are 100% satisfied with the final outcome of your veneers and how they look on you.
  2. Once you are completely satisfied, Dr. White will clean, polish, and etch your tooth, making the surface rough so your new veneers can adhere and bond with your teeth correctly.
  3. Dr. White will then apply a special bonding cement to the veneer, which is then placed on your tooth. A beam of light will be directed at your tooth, which hardens the cement.
  4. Once the bonding has taken place, D. White will remove excess cement and make sure your bite feels good.
