Is TMJ common, or can it start suddenly? I'm going to say something and try not to be political. White women in middle age have the majority of TMJ problems. More so than anybody else in their age group or their social setting (men or women). And I don't know why that is the case, but trust me that's the case.

Can it come on suddenly? Yes, it can severely or it can build up over time.

Stress, anxiety, accidents, all those kinds of things can make it start suddenly or build up over time. Either way. What it is, is when you get tired of hurting, you need to get help from someone.
